What is the difference between Botox® and Juvéderm?
Botox® and Juvéderm have different functions, so they cannot be used interchangeably. Botox® injections temporarily relax facial muscles whereas Juvéderm is a dermal filler of hyaluronic acid (HA), which plumps up the skin. Using them in tandem provides complimentary enhancements that keep your face and skin looking balanced, youthful, and refreshed.
Is it safe to get Botox® and Juvéderm from my dentist?
Botox® in dentistry is considered safe when performed by a dentist specially trained in Botox® injections. Dr. Huffman was trained by the American Academy of Facial Esthetics and is highly trained in facial injectables including Botox®, Xeomin®, and JUVÉDERM® products. As a dentist, Dr. Huffman has also had extensive training and is extremely familiar with head and neck anatomy. This knowledge and background are important for safe, effective injections and natural-looking results.
How long does Botox® treatment last?
Botox® treatments typically last 3-4 months. In order to maintain results, repeat injections are necessary.
How long does Juvéderm treatment last?
Juvéderm treatments last anywhere from 6-12 months. In order to maintain results, repeat injections are necessary.
What should I expect from Botox® treatment?
A Botox® treatment session may last only 10 minutes depending on the number of areas you have treated. The process consists of a fine needle being inserted into your superficial skin. This can be a little uncomfortable, but most patients find the discomfort very tolerable given how short the treatments are. There is no downtime for Botox® and results will show a day or two after treatment with optimal results being noticeable at 7-10 days post-treatment.
What should I expect from Juvéderm treatment?
A Juvéderm treatment session typically lasts about 20 minutes depending on the number of areas you have treated. Before treatment, topical or local anesthesia is administered. Dr. Huffman is highly trained in anesthesia and has performed thousands of injections. Dr. Huffman typically numbs the area before inserting the filler which makes dermal filler placement much more comfortable, especially lip enhancement injections. Results are instant but most patients do have some swelling in the treated areas for 1-3 days afterward. True results are clear after the swelling subsides a couple of days after treatment.
Can I get both Botox® and Juvéderm?
Yes, using these products together achieves the best result! While both can be used to treat lines and wrinkles, Botox® and Juvéderm serve different purposes. Juvéderm is made of hyaluronic acid (HA), which plumps up the skin. Botox injections temporarily relax facial muscles. A trained eye and professional experience are needed to help make the correct judgment for which product to use, how much to use, and where to use it!
