Smile Transformations in Belpre, OH
Many dentists use internet images to show what they would like to be able to do for you. We believe in showing you real results that real patients really achieved in our office!
Patient Concerns: Patient was concerned about the health of her teeth especially those in the back of the mouth.
Dentist Diagnosis: X-rays revealed multiple poor margins and recurrent decay on many teeth treated by other dentists with crowns and veneers. Visually the veneers and crowns were acceptable, but not up to the esthetic standards that Dr. Huffman desires. The decay around and under prior work was serious enough that some teeth were on the brink of non-restorability and required immediate treatment.
Dentist Recommendation: Redoing crown and veneer work to achieve beautiful teeth with properly fitted margins to make long-term tooth health very likely. Dr. Huffman puts forth the painstaking time and effort to achieve high quality fitting margins on all his dental work.
Treatment: Full mouth crown and veneer cosmetic work to achieve a beautiful smile that can be maintained for decades.
Patient Concerns: Patient (our very own Office Manager, Nikki) did not like to smile due to the pointiness and misalignment of her teeth.
Dentist Diagnosis: Teeth were misaligned due to crowding requiring orthodontic treatment to create space for the teeth and restore proper alignment.
Treatment: SureSmile treatment including upper and lower clear aligners as well as interproximal reduction which involves removing tooth enamel (just fractions of a millimeter) in between adjacent teeth to make space for the teeth for better alignment. Patient also had GLO professional whitening.
“Now I do not hesitate to smile and get compliments all the time on my teeth!” -Nikki R.
Patient Concerns: An active businesswomen, social influencer, and wife & mom. Client was conscious of her smile and frequently hid it. She felt it was limiting her business and social interactions, and poorly reflecting her vibrant personality. Really wanted natural-looking after seeing many other dentists offer obviously fake results (shape and color).
Dentist Diagnosis: Central incisors overwhelm the smaller laterals. Crowding. Uneven edges. Patchy spots and color lacks uniformity. Decay problematic.
Treatment: Smile Design. Combination of 22 porcelain veneers and crowns to rejuvenate the smile. Custom color matching for proper accent to skin-tone. Idealization of dental proportions for a beautiful, natural result.
Patient Concerns: “A childhood injury still haunts me to this day.”
Dentist Diagnosis: Poor restoration of injured tooth and incisal wear discrepancies that make the teeth appear to be on different planes.
Treatment: Removal of the former single crown restoration and 6 new crowns that are lighter, brighter, and match one another, providing a youthful smile.
Patient Concerns: Patient was unhappy with the gaps between the canines and bicuspids, discoloration, and asymmetry of her smile.
Dentist Diagnosis: The previously placed crown was not properly color matched and was bulky and unnatural looking.
Treatment: Smile makeover which included placement of 8 crowns. This restored the symmetry and esthetics of her smile.
Patient Concerns: Patient was worried about decay around crowns and fillings that she had done by another dentist. She was unhappy with her smile’s appearance including the yellowish color of teeth, ill-fitting crowns, and gum inflammation. She was also struggling to chew food well due to issues with her bite.
Dentist Diagnosis: 4 previous crowns had poor margins which allowed bacteria to get in around the gumline causing gum irritation and leading to decay. Teeth #4, #11, #21, and #28, which did not have crowns, had decay that needed to be removed. Bite misaligned quite severely. Patient also required a root canal.
Treatment: Patient opted for a smile makeover to address the decay, bite issues, and esthetic concerns all at once. First, Dr. Huffman removed decay from the affected teeth and performed a root canal. Next, he used a combination of 24 crowns and implant crowns placed on upper and lower arch to restore smiles esthetics. Dr. Huffman carefully aligned crowns and adjusted as needed for a proper bite. Margins were meticulously checked for precision. Patient now has a beautiful, functional, and healthy smile.
Patient Concerns: Patient was displeased with the esthetics of the crowns recently placed on front teeth by another dentist.
Dentist Diagnosis: The crowns placed were not properly shade-matched causing a noticeable contrast between the patient’s front teeth (crowns) and the shade of the natural teeth surrounding the crowns. The yellow color not only makes the restoration more obvious, but it also ages the smile.
Treatment: Placement of two properly shade-matched porcelain crowns to restore the smile’s esthetics and uniformity.
Patient Concerns: Patient did not like the appearance of the cracks in her front teeth or the darkness near the gumline on tooth #11.
Dentist Diagnosis: Fractures in front teeth are deep and extensive increasing the risk of decay and compromising the function and esthetics of the teeth. Teeth are also at high risk for further fractures.
Treatment: Placement of two shade-matched porcelain crowns on the front teeth to restore the smile’s esthetics and function. Corrected the contact point of the front teeth. Repaired the black spot on tooth #11 with composite restoration.
*It is important to note that not all restorations are bright white! Dr. Huffman ensures that the restorations blend with the rest of the individual’s smile and fit their smile goals. In this case, the patient is over the age of 85 and was not looking for a youthful, white smile, but rather a beautiful and mature smile that fits her.
*Gums are often inflamed immediately after treatment. The redness and irritation will subside after about a week.
Patient Concerns: Patient was displeased with color of teeth due to drinking coffee and tea regularly.
Treatment: GLO in-office professional whitening.
Patient Concerns: Patient works with the public and her biggest concern is the missing teeth that are leaving gaps in her smile.
Dentist Diagnosis: Patient has missing teeth need replaced. Yellowed coloration needs lightened. Edges of front tooth has snags and appears sharp. Former root canal treated tooth has a current infection.
Treatment: First, Dr. Huffman performed re-treatment of former root canal tooth to remove infection. Next, he used combination treatment to get a permanently improved smile. Treatment included crowns, hybrid veneers, and a permanent bridge for a total of 12 teeth. Patient now has a beautiful smile that she can be confident about while working with the public. She plans to continue treatment of her lower teeth as soon as possible so they can match the smile makeover on her upper teeth.
Patient Concerns: Patient is displeased with the appearance of previous work she had done by another dentist especially the discoloration around the gumline.
Dentist Diagnosis: Former restoration on tooth #9 has grayed over time because the crown previously used had porcelain fused to metal and the margins were not good. Other teeth have small chips and staining that need addressed.
Treatment: 8 porcelain crowns placed on upper arch to permanently restore the teeth and provide life-like esthetics.
Patient Concerns: Had implant placed by another dentist in February and was unhappy with esthetics of implant crown. Looking for a natural and lasting result.
Dentist Diagnosis: Work done by another dentist made the implant obvious.
Treatment: Final restoration of implant crown on front tooth to restore function and esthetics. Matched color, size, and texture for natural result.
Patient Concerns: Patient is young but has patchy work on the front teeth that make them appear discolored.
Dentist Diagnosis: Over time, the former restorative material around the gumline of the front teeth has discolored to the point that there is a noticeable contrast between the natural tooth shade and the material.
Treatment: 8 porcelain crowns and hybrid veneers to permanently restore the teeth and provide life-like esthetics.
Patient/ Parent Concerns: Infant having difficulty latching during breastfeeding.
Dentist Diagnosis: Patient suffering from both lip and tongue ties. Exhibiting restricted movement in both areas.
Treatment: Laser frenectomy treatment by Dr. Huffman which released the frenulums allowing the muscles of the tongue and lip to move more freely.
Outcome: Immediately following the procedure, infant was able to latch well, and mother was able to comfortably nurse. During the 3 weeks following the procedure, the infant gained one pound per week.

Patient Concerns: Missing, worn and discolored teeth that have led him to dislike his appearance and want a better-looking smile for life.
Dentist Diagnosis: Patient in his early 50’s is experiencing smile collapse due to moderate to severe tooth wear and some missing teeth. The tooth structure that is missing due to years of wear gives the lower 1/3 of the face a compressed shape, leading to poor facial proportions/esthetics that happen over a very long period of slowly wearing away the teeth through bruxism (grinding teeth).
Treatment: Smile makeover completed with 2 dental implants and 22 units of porcelain and zirconia crowns and permanent bridges. Tooth height corrected to re-establish the correct lower 1/3 facial height.
Patient Concerns: “My teeth are in really bad shape. They have gotten to the point where I just want implants.”
Dentist Diagnosis: Patient presents with a limited amount of remaining natural teeth that have severe wear patterns. The worn teeth appear short in the smile line and the remaining coloration is yellowed.
Treatment: Extraction of all remaining upper teeth under IV sedation. 6 immediate implants placed by Dr. Huffman at time of extraction. After healing, a permanent implant bridge was placed, spanning from R to L to replace upper teeth and restore tooth size and coloration to normal.
Patient Concerns: “I heard a snap while eating crispy pizza crust”.
Dentist Diagnosis: Patient presents with existing dental bridges. The upper right bridge has fractured the 2 roots that the teeth rest on and the bridge will fall out if patient is not treated soon. Former dental work does not look natural at the gumline and shows grayness. The teeth are long and rectangular in shape which does not compliment the feminine face well.
Treatment: Replaced both dental bridges with new dental bridges and crown work. New work eliminates esthetic concerns, replaces broken teeth, and lightens smile. Shape and shade correction to give a bright, natural result which compliments the face well without looking “fake”.
Patient Concerns: “My front bridges are loose.”
Dentist Diagnosis: A lot of grinding wear damage to all the teeth! Teeth appear to be roughly half the height that they would be normally. 2 failing bridges in front have the anchor teeth decaying underneath. Failing bridge teeth are going to result in losing the front 6 upper teeth. The tooth color is yellowed where not covered with dental bridges.
Treatment: Removal of approximately 8 failing teeth is first completed with bone grafting to preserve the future implant sites and a set of temporary teeth delivered while healing and planning continue. Next, teeth color, height, and contours were corrected in a digital smile design to plan the treatment from start to finish. Then, 4 dental implants were placed to replace the teeth lost in the front of the smile due to failed bridges. Following that, the remaining natural teeth were fixed with 20 porcelain or zirconia crowns to restore proper dimensions and esthetics. Finally, the dental implants were restored with 6 units of implant crowns to give him a permanent smile and front teeth capable of eating corn on the cob or apples!
Patient Concerns: “I hate my denture. I don’t like how it looks and I can’t wear it”
Dentist Diagnosis: Poor esthetics and fit. Patient hardly has teeth showing in her smile and worse, the short teeth make her face appear shortened in length and squished due to overclosure.
Treatment: A new denture fabricated with proper tooth and lip contouring to allow the patient to smile again! (Her teeth stay in place now also!)
Patient/ Parent Concerns: “My son broke his tooth on a metal pole at school.”
Dentist Diagnosis: Enamel-dentine fracture.
Important: After initial trauma, the tooth has been managed properly for vital pulpal progression and mature apex formation. Tooth is now ready for a definitive restoration.
Treatment: Due to the patient’s young age of 9 years, and since he is still growing, the final fix is desired to be achieved with direct bonding of white filling material instead of crowns or veneers. Dr. Stephen Huffman completed and restored the tooth with accurate anatomy, dimensions, and shade using skills taught at Ohio State pre-clinic by Dr. Rafat Amer.
Patient Concerns: “My teeth look bad.”
Dentist Diagnosis: Enamel thinning, and excessive wear pattern has led to overall yellowed appearance with dark abraded areas near the gumline. “U-shaped” incisal edge wear pattern starting to be noticeable.
Treatment: 11 zirconia crowns to mimic a natural tooth shade. Crown incisal edges modified to eliminate “U-shape” from wear. Teeth shade and size customized to match patient’s skin and face shape/size.
Patient Concerns: Gaps between teeth.
Dentist Diagnosis: Lots of spacing and some minor incisal edge discrepancies leading to undesirable smile esthetics.
Treatment: Upper and lower Invisalign clear retainers to close gaps between teeth. Smoothed edge for uniformity.
Patient Concerns: “My wife is worried about the amount of wear on my teeth and the appearance of my smile.”
Dentist Diagnosis: Severe wear from grinding. Facial height loss causing patient to look “aged”. Loss of tooth structure so severe that patient’s normal smile nearly looks toothless.
Treatment: Challenging case with awesome results! 28 crowns and veneers for long-term support and a renewed, youthful smile. Increased tooth length for renewal of facial proportions. Post-treatment guard provided due to severity of wear.
Patient Concerns: Worn teeth, poor restorations from other dentists, and gray bands at the gumline.
Dentist Diagnosis: Unsatisfactory esthetics due to wear and poor dental restoration.
Treatment: Smile Design. Combination of 30 crowns and veneers. Master craftsmanship employed to utilize porcelain, porcelain fused to zirconia, and full zirconia restorations in matching color to provide long-term strength and pleasing esthetics.
Patient Concerns: “I chipped my front tooth”
Dentist Diagnosis: Enamel-dentin fracture without pulpal involvement. Shade match to surrounding teeth a big concern for final esthetics.
Treatment: Custom shade selection and white filling material used to restore the proper shape and shade of the fractured tooth.
Result: Smile designed by Dr. Huffman still looks brand new at follow-up appointment after one year of wear.
Patient Concerns: Teeth had become short, worn, and discolored. Missing teeth. Wanted to preserve his smile to last through retirement.
Dentist Diagnosis: Severe wear of tooth structure from grinding. Missing teeth. Staining and discoloration. Loss of facial vertical height visually ‘aged’ patient.
Treatment: Smile Design. Proper proportions achieved for ideal tooth height and width using 20+ porcelain crowns and zirconia white crowns. Patient youthfulness and facial dimensions restored.
Patient Concerns: Teeth have become so worn that they’re barely visible when smiling.
Dentist Diagnosis: Severe wear from grinding. Acute loss of tooth structure and facial height causing visual aging.
Treatment: Combination of 28 veneers and crowns. Lengthened teeth for rejuvenated, youthful smile and proper facial proportions.
Patient Concerns: Patient did not care for color or crowding of her smile. Natural-looking results were very important to her.
Dentist Diagnosis: Incisal edge wear, discoloration, crowding, and crossbite. Poor anterior dental esthetics that falsely age teeth.
Treatment: Upper arch treatment of 14 porcelain veneers and crowns to optimize spacing, provide uniformity, and achieve a natural final result.
Patient Concerns: Dental bridges completed long ago no longer look good. Smile appearance affecting personal and business interactions.
Dentist Diagnosis: Bridge work shows gold through porcelain. Decay invasion happening under the bridge and crown work. Crowding and a few missing teeth. Patient “hides” smile.
Treatment: Removal of all prior dental work. Full mouth restoration achieved using porcelain and porcelain fused with zirconia. Dental bridges, crowns, and veneers used in combination. 20+ units.
Patient Concerns: Congenitally missing lateral tooth and small sized malformation of other lateral tooth.
Dentist Diagnosis: Patient is permanently missing an adult tooth and presents with peg-lateral on upper left. Some spacing between central incisors as well.
Treatment: Placement of dental implant #7 and final implant crown #7 fabricated to mimic natural shade, size, and shape. Cosmetic veneer placement #10 to reshape peg-lateral and composite bonding #8 and #9 to close spacing. Natural and maintainable results.
Patient Concerns: “I don’t like the way my teeth look anymore.”
Dentist Diagnosis: Teeth discoloration appearing yellowed. Uneven edges and size creating some jagged spots. Staining from old fillings.
Treatment: 10 porcelain Veneers placed to address tooth color, shape, size, and uniformity. Smile appears much more youthful. Patient has only completed the top teeth and is now looking forward to doing the lower arch in the future!
Patient Concerns: Can’t chew very well on back teeth
Dentist Diagnosis: Missing some back teeth that are critical to chewing function and important in the smile. Dental implants not a good option due to maxillary sinus location.
Treatment: A permanent fixed bridge was designed to match her natural esthetics and placed to permanently restore missing teeth.
Patient Concerns: Long ago injury to some front teeth and root canal treatments leaving teeth with dark discolorations.
Dentist Diagnosis: Incisal edge disparity of central incisors. Black and gray staining visible in the smile. Patient “hides” teeth.
Treatment: 2 porcelain crowns used to reshape the teeth to match in size and length while eliminating the unsightly staining.
Patient Concerns: Worried about long-term ability to maintain tooth health
Dentist Diagnosis: Work done by another dentist left many rough fillings with poor edges that catch food and floss. Patient cannot adequately clean teeth even with good effort. Prior dental work also left patient with “mountains” of filling material built on some teeth as an attempt to correct the poor fit of the upper and lower teeth to each other.
Treatment: Established new plane of function for upper and lower teeth. Eliminated “mountains” by placing 22 porcelain crowns to restore uniformity and provide cleanability for the long-term health of teeth. Placed 2 posterior dental implants to increase chewing function for patient.
Treatment: Permanent fixed bridge for natural esthetics and permanent restoration of missing teeth.
Patient Concerns: Teeth aren’t very white and are crowded & misaligned. Didn’t want a “fake” looking result.
Dentist Diagnosis: Crossbite and crowding. Discoloration. Wear to incisal edges. Tooth appearance “ages” smile.
Treatment: While Invisalign was a good option for this case, patient needed quick results. Corrected spacing and created uniformity while attaining natural results with 14 porcelain veneers. Upper arch treatment only.
Patient Concerns: “I’m tired of wearing a partial – I hate taking it in and out every day. It’s been a struggle for the last 40 years.”
Dentist Diagnosis: Missing teeth. No uniformity to color. Remaining central incisor is located in the center of the face, making for complex restoration.
Treatment: Used crowns and fixed bridges to provide permanent teeth with color uniformity. Established natural location of the teeth, eliminating a centralized upper tooth. Trashed old partial!
Patient Concerns: Front teeth broke out
Dentist Diagnosis: Patient had prior dental work that catastrophically failed resulting in 2 teeth breaking off and falling out. Remaining prior dental work is “patched” in places and shows black and gray staining.
Treatment: Removal of all prior anterior work with metal staining. Placement of permanent bridge and veneers to eliminate metal and rejuvenate smile.
Patient Concerns: A dental infection and missing some teeth.
Dentist Diagnosis: Multiple “gaps” in mouth from missing teeth. Poor anterior biting ability. Anterior crossbite also present.
Treatment: 20 total units. Full upper arch treatment of crowns and bridges and 6 front lowers with crown and bridge work to significantly improve function and appearance.
